20th Century Lanes

champs Rebeca Reguero and Women's Series champ Catherine Rawsthorne

Rebeca Reguero made the Southwest's first successful invasion of the Northwest, while Aaron Yoon picked up where he left off last season, in exciting Pacific northwest Conference action at Portland's 20th Century Lanes.

Anthony Douglas opened up the eight-person scratch division stepladder finals with a 194 game that beat Jeremy Witt (184) and Tyler Boe (161).  Douglas then bowled the second highest game of the entire tournament on what proved to be a very difficult pattern with a 245 that ousted Perry Crowell (175) and Nick Devlin (163).   Josh Mullen then rolled a semifinal 184 game that was enough to edge Douglas (163) and John Jordan (150) to reach the title match.

Top seed Rebeca Reguero was the leader after qualifying at just under a 200 average, and held on to that lead through the semifinals.  She's no stranger to holding her own with the boys, and proved it again with a 216-200 win over Mullen.  The win was her second scratch title, 6th overall, and first scratch win by a female in an open singles event since she won in Las Vegas last season.  It's also the first time a bowler from the Southwest won a Pac NW event, finally turning the tables after many Northwest bowlers have traveled down and won Southwest events.

Max Polhill opened the handicap division stepladder finals with a 217-206 victory over Tyler Satter.  Polhill remained strong in round two, beating Bri Hemming 224-171.  Kara Lieber then edged Polhill 215-207 to advance on to the championship game.

Top seed Aaron Yoon was last season's Invitational runner-up, and ground it out on an extremely tough pattern (double points JBT events are usually but not always contested on tricky patterns) to earn the top seed.  Both finalists bowled very well in the title game, but in the end it was Yoon who escaped with a 214-200 win, good for the second title of his JBT career.

The Women's Series title match was between Reguero and Catherine Rawsthorne.  This time the Northwest defended the home turf, with Catherine squeezing out a 180-178 win for the Women's title, and a shot at an extra $500 at the JBT Girls Invitational in summer 2011.  Be sure to read more about the Girls Invitational at the 'statistics' section of the website.

Thanks to everyone who helped create a great turnout (which resulted in the largest scholarship payout of the young season); but we can do even better- keep spreading the word about JBT, especially to handicap-level bowlers!  And thanks to 20th Century for a great job as always hosting our Tour.  Want in on all this fun?  Come on out to the next JBT event, it's that simple!
