BOWL EL PASO

champs William Entsminger & Shawn Perry

William Entsminger and Shawn Perry captured JBT titles in our last trip to Texas for the season, in exciting NM-TX Conference action at Bowl El Paso.

Leo Guzman made his first scratch tournament a success by opening up the scratch division stepladder finals with a 216-178 win over Billy Read.  Ahkeen Williams then defeated Guzman 224-193, before Entsminger stopped him 205-201 to advance to the title match.

Entsminger and Williams had played for a title already this season, but his title match opponent, top seed Jess Gagliardi, was an even more familiar foe.  Entsminger beat him at Starlight last month, but Jess had won the previous two title match meetings last season.  After a good start by both bowlers, the final game got downright weird in the middle frames as both bowlers suddenly lost the look and left big splits everywhere.  However, it was William who righted the ship first, and his 179-172 squeaker gave him the fourth title of his JBT career.

Aurora Popple opened up the handicap division finals with a 237-203 win over first time finalist Andy Arrelano.  Eric Rosas then beat Popple 237-209.  A thrilling semifinal match came down to the tenth frame, where Rosas' missed spare gave Ryan Doan a 238-237 single pin win, advancing him to another title match.

Top seed Shawn Perry has a never-say-die attitude, and after a slow start, promised a big comeback.  He did just that, shooting a 250 scratch game in game eight to leap from 8th place to 1st, and then stayed strong against 2-time winner Doan.  Shawn's 237-218 final score victory was good for the first title of his JBT career.

Thanks as always to the staff and crew at Bowl El Paso for another fine job hosting our Tour.  Over $1,600 in scholarships were awarded to bowlers of all averages- want in on all this fun?  Check our schedule out and come see us at a JBT event in the near future!
