BOWLIUM

champs Joey Chuo and Wesley Low

Joey Chuo and Wesley Low captured JBT titles in exciting Southern California Conference action at Montclair's Bowlium.

Brandon Kraye opened a high-scoring scratch division stepladder finals with a 233-225 win over first-time finalist Valerie Riggin.  Kraye then turned it up a notch for a 256-217 win over Steven Manier.  Chuo then edged Kraye 247-234 to advance to the title match.

Top seed Charlie Hair had completely dominated the tournament, leading wire-to-wire, shooting the event's only 300 game, averaging 260 in qualifying, and having a chance at our all-time 8-game record.  However, in a stepladder format you essentially have to win the tournament twice, and in the title game it was Joey who was red-hot, defeating Charlie 267-207 for the second title of his JBT career.

Tyler Boscarino snuck into the handicap finals, and then exploded with the high handicap game of the day in a 290-218 win over Drew Stern in round one.  Kirk Chui then cooled off Boscarino 237-228, and followed with a 223-219 squeaker over Brandon Turner to reach the title match.

Top seed Wesley Low had been battling with Chui for the lead most of the day, and at one point would have been in second place in the scratch division had he been bowling in it!  The top-seed jinx had no effect on Wesley, as he bowled a confident game en route to a 247-206 victory and his second career JBT title.

Thanks as always to the crew at Bowlium for hosting us- the center has been beautifully remodeled and is in great shape!  Over $1,500 in scholarships were awarded to bowlers age 21 and under of all averages- want in on the fun?  Come on out to the next JBT event, it's that simple!
