GLENFAIR LANES

champs Kyle King & Alex Pellegrino

Two bowlers who dominated their divisions finished the deal with title match wins in exciting JBT Arizona Conference action at Glenfair Lanes.

The scratch division used our popular 'mulligan' format, where you literally get two 'do-overs' on shots you don't like.  Kyle King makes few enough mistakes as it is- when you give him a few chances to redeem himself, he gets that much tougher, and he led the event start to finish.  Charlie Goulet opened up the scratch division stepladder finals by avenging yesterday's loss to Riley Dempsey with a 252-225 win.  Goulet then rolled past Labriel Leach 213-203, and followed with a 212-191 win over Matt Herbert to advance to play King.

It's tough when you lead a bowling tournament with a stepladder format in that you have to essentially win it twice, but King was on cruise control all day, and his 234-174 win was good for his 39th career JBT title, now only three behind all-time leader Steven Black.

Dominic Luna returned to the handicap division finals with a 189-184 win over Kristen Lee in the opening match.  Shannon Ryan made her first appearance in a while count as well, with a 196-191 decision over Luna.  Pellegrino then beat Ryan 227-181 to reach the title match.

Top seed Travis Johnson, #3 in points heading into the weekend, would have loved a win here to help a Bowler of the Year run, and grabbed the lead away from Pellegrino in game eight.    However, it was Alex who had dominated the day, and he came up with a 234-180 victory to claim a long-awaited first career JBT title.

Andy Holick and Megan LaPrell felt the impact of the Impact Challenge, picking up $25 scholarships each courtesy of Impact Bowling, at 99th and Bell in NW Phoenix.

Thanks to the great folks at Glenfair for another great job hosting us- they are an extremely generous, accommodating center that really values quality youth bowling.  Over $1,600 in scholarships were awarded to bowlers of all averages- want in on all the fun?  Check out our schedule and come see us at the next JBT event, it's that simple!
