Gold Coast Lanes

champs Kyle Jones & Douglas Csayni

Kyle Jones captured his first JBT title, while Douglas Csayni picked up win #2, in exciting JBT Mojave Conference action at Gold Coast Lanes.

Our exciting 'survivor' format was used, creating do-or-die matches throughout the center.  Eventually 15 scratch survivors were carved down to six.  In that round, DJ Sloan eliminated Eric Hatchett, who thus made his first scratch top-5, 219-166; Jones ousted 20time defending champ Zack Hattori 222-176, and Melissa Huether beat another big name, red0hot Devin Bidwell, 194-182.

The three remaining bowlers then played a 3-way match, with Jones cruising to a 240, while Sloan's 179 was enough to advance as well, while Huether struggles to a 139, but still a fine third place finish.  The finale was a high-scoring affair, as the veteran Sloan, who won the Invitational here at Gold Coast last season, and Jones traded the lead and refused to back down.  After DJ doubled in the tenth,  Jones did the same for a 245-228 win and his first career JBT title.

The handicap field was also eventually whittled down to six.  In that round, Csayni eliminated Marina Stever 221-199, Nick Wade ousted Brian Grupe 235-195, and Taylor Ray defeated Dakota Nitz 219-185.  In the ensuing round of three, Wade rolled on with 235, while in a close battle for the second finals spot, Csayni edged Ray 187-182, advancing Douglas to the final.

The title match was well bowled by both players, but in the end it was Csayni who pulled away for a 228-204 win and the second title of his JBT career.

Thanks as always to the crew at Gold Coast for hosting us.  Over $1,200 in scholarships were awarded to bowlers of all ages and averages- want in on all this fun?  Just come on down to the next JBT event, it's really that simple!
