    James Hawkins and Tyler Boscarino captured JBT titles in exciting Southern California Conference action at Kearny Mesa Bowl.

    All-time career scholarship earnings leader Kyle King opened the scratch division stepladder finals by doubling in the tenth for a 209-202 win over red-hot Devin Bidwell.  Kevin Jones then was able to stop King 246-201, before Mark Myers edged ones in a squeaker, 197-193, to advance to the title match.

    Top seed Hawkins took over the tournament with a 268 and a 278 in the semifinals, and the two-handed star barely slowed down from that pace in the finale.  In the end, James won the match 257-175, for the fifth title of his JBT career.

    David Fritz and Eric Demo tied for the 8th and final handicap stepladder spot.  After Fritz won the rolloff 54-49, he kept the momentum going with a 241 effort that eliminated Ashley Dunn (217) and Drew Stern (213).  Luke Holley then took advantage of not making the finals during a Broncos game, firing a 223 that beat Fritz (197) and 7 year-old Leah Rivera (195), who was making her second straight finals.  Boscarino then came up with a big 246 to oust Holley (223) and Wesley Low (228), and advanced to his first career title match.

      Top seed Rane Lacona had struggled early this season, but found the lanes to his liking this time, earning the top seed in a very close semifinal race.  However, he got off to a very rocky start in the title match, while Tyler continued to mark to run up the lead.  Rane was able to rally in the late frames though, but the comeback fell short, and with the 207-197 win, Boscarino finally captured his first career JBT title.
