PARKWAY BOWL

champs Cameron Smith & Ashley Dunn

Cameron Smith climbed another rung up the all-time titles ladder, while Ashley Dunn tasted victory for the first time, in exciting JBT Southern California Conference action at El Cajon's Parkway Bowl.

The scratch division stepladder finals opened up with an all-Hansen match, as bothers Dan and Brad went at it, with Dan earning the 245-175 win (including taking the 7-10 out of the 4-7-10).  In a thrilling second game, Zach Herbert squeaked by Hansen 245-243.  Smith then stopped Herbert 224-181 to reach the title match.

Top qualifier Zach Hattori looked extremely polished after a week at Camp Bakes, a JBT sponsor, averaging over 254 in qualifying on the house pattern en route to the top seed.  However, Smith is very comfortable at his home house. In the title game Hattori was plagued by 10-pins on the right lane, and that provided the margin in a 236-184 win for Smith, moving him into a tie for sixth on our all-time list with 16 career JBT titles.

First time finalist Jared Bitanga opened up the handicap division stepladder with a 213-181 win over Drew Stern.  Rance Dvorak then doubled in the tenth frame for a 225-219 thriller over Bitanga.  Elias Torres then came up with a big 260-215 win over Dvorak to reach the title game.

Top seed Ashley Dunn had the best day of her JBT career, grabbing the lead for good after game six.  However, Torres had a great first half of the title game to build a big lead.  Dunn had no quit in her though, and she countered with a 5-bagger from the sixth frame for a 232-212 comeback win and her first career JBT title.

Almost $2,000 in scholarships were awarded to bowlers of all averages age 21 and under.  Want in on the fun?  Check out or schedules and come bowl a JBT event soon!
