AMF Peoria

champs Jordan Plunkett & Randi Speiler

Jordan Plunkett continued on his Tour-wide tear, while Randi Speiler regained her own dominant form, in exciting JBT Arizona Conference action hosted by AMF Peoria.

Kyle King opened the scratch division stepladder finals with a 245-228 win over Aaron Foshie.  Cameron Smith then appeared to have King beat, but an 8-count on his fill ball resulted in a 196-195 stunning win for King.  Kyle was unable to get a momentum boost from the surprise win though, as Jess Gagliardi stopped him 248-219 in the semifinal to set up the title match.

Top seed Jordan Plunkett, coming off a win and a 3rd place finish in the Pacific Northwest Conference's Invitational weekend, dominated the high scoring day en route to the top seed.  He maintained the top form in the finale as well, beating Jess 228-205 for the 11th title of his impressive JBT career.

The largest handicap division field of the year was whittled down to eight for the stepladder finals, and in round one Kyle Thompson's 245 was enough to defeat Josue Chavez (223) and JJ Hall (175).  Thompson rolled on with 215 in round two, defeating Jeff Anderson (154) and Blake Kalaf (165).  The competition was stronger in the semifinals, as Rane Lacona bowed out with a 189, but after Thompson finished with 241, could only watch as Steven Acuff needed to mark to advance.  After leaving the 2-8, Acuff heartbreakingly missed the spare, advancing Thopmson to the title match and costing Acuff a chance at the top-5 exemption at the following day's Invitational.

Top seed Randi Speiler had a spectacular tournament, averaging over 220 for her eight games to grab the top seed in a very high scoring day.  Climbing the 8-person stepladder is a very hard task, and Speiler was just on too much of a roll, stopping Thompson's brilliant run with a 243-230 win, earning the 4th title of her JBT career.

Mark Curtis fired the event's only 300 game, while 4 other games over 280 were recorded.  Over $2,600 in scholarships were awarded to bowlers under 22 of all averages- want in on the fun?  Check out our schedule, and come on out to the next JBT event, it's that simple
