Bowl El Paso

champs Aaron Foshie & Steven Acuff

'Aarizona' invaded Texas, with Aaron Foshie and Steven Acuff capturing titles in exciting New Mexico-Texas Conference action at Bowl El Paso.

Danny Cobine ended a protracted finals drought with a 179-152 win over Billy Read to open the scratch division stepladder.  Cobine then got by Chris Brown in a nailbiting tenth frame 197-190.  Those were fairly low scores on a fairly high scoring day, and Riley Dempsey turned that around with a front-11 beauty in a 299-203 win over Cobine to advance to the title match.

Dempsey and top seed Foshie had dominated the day, with Riley leading the first four rounds, and Aaron leading the last four, thanks in large part to a 792 semifinal set.  It can be intimidating to play someone coming off a 299 game, but Aaron quickly turned the momentum with a fast start in the finals, and the end result was a 255-183 win, good for a long awaited first scratch division title, and 5th overall of his JBT career.

Luis Cintron put on a spectacular show in the handicap division stepladder finals, beginning with a 231-192 win over Lacey Shelton.  The 8 year-old then slipped by Nick Sanchez 243-239, and followed with a 261-233 win over Savannah Carr to reach the title match.

All of Luis' older opponents had a large handicap difference to make up, and despite excellent performances fell just short.  Top seed Steven Acuff solved that problem by starting off with a strike string that made up most of the difference early.  Luis, bowling his 12th game of the day, cooled off a bit, and the end result was a 237-186 win for Acuff, good for the 4th title of his JBT career.

Thanks as always to Bowl El Paso for a fine job hosting our Tour.  Over $1,200 in scholarships were awarded to bowlers of all averages- want in on the fun?  Come on out to the next JBT event, it's that simple!
