AMF SHEA VILLAGE

champs Kyle King & Drew Stern

Kyle King regained his winning form, while Drew Stern set a new handicap division milestone, in exciting JBT Arizona Conference action at AMF Shea Village Lanes.

Recent first-time JBT champ Anthony Tripi opened the scratch division stepladder finals with a 244-195 win over 19-time titlist Cameron Smith.  Tripi then rolled past California's Ben Canfield 249-221, before lefty powerhouse Brian Weyrauch stopped Tripi 214-204, advancing Brian to the championship game.

Top seed King came alive in the 'mega-matchplay' semifinals, going a combined 41-13 to take the top seed away from Weyrauch.  Brian looked like he was going to take it back though as he broke out to an early lead, but King finally started to figure out the shot and grinded away at the deficit.  A missed spare from Weyrauch in the 9th gave Kyle the last bit of room he needed to complete a brilliant 223-214 comeback win, good for the 51st title of his JBT career, but first since December in Kingman.

Alex Pellegrino opened up the handicap stepladder finals by shattering the collective hopes of the Rapp family, first beating little brother Morgan 240-222, and following with a 216-203 win over big brother Zachary.  Alex then squeaked by Dakota Thompson, 204-202, to reach the title game.

By making the finals, top seed Drew Stern set the all-time record for handicap top-5 appearances, with 21.  He wasn't content with just setting the record though, as he hung on in a bit of a struggle 183-164 to wrap up the record setting day with his third career JBT victory.  He also picked up an extra $100 for rolling to victory with an Ebonite ball.  Kyle and Drew both earned a boosted $225 first place prize courtesy of Bowling Dynamics!

In all, over $1,600 was awarded to all ages and averages- want in on the fun?  Check our schedule and come on out to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
