Red Rock Lanes

champs Brad Hansen & Isaiah Cleveland; Women's Series champ Brittany Kolatzny

Brad Hansen, Isaiah Cleveland claimed their first career JBT titles, while Brittany Kolatzny tasted Women's Series victory for the first time, in very exciting Mojave Conference action at Red Rock Lanes.

Both divisions used our unique 'pick-yer-poison' format, where the higher seeds chose who they wanted to play instead of seeding determining it.  Scratch division top seed Riley Dempsey chose #12 Tony Rose, and it was a good choice, as he swept his match 2-0.  #2 Zach Hattori also swept his match, while #16 Kris George, picked last even though he just squeezed in the cut, showed why people were afraid of him with a 2-1 win to advance.

In the round of eight, #13 Spencer Lilley upset Teddy Lucente 2-0, #10 Zach Martinez beat George 2-1, Hattoriu got by Rebeca Reguero 2-1 with a thrilling 269-247 battle in the decider, and #12 Brad Hansen was the hemlock for Dempsey's day, as Brad swept the match 2-0.

In one game semifinal matches, Hansen beat Martinez 199-155, and Hattori bested Lilley 225-194, to set up the title match.  Hansen loves Red Rock, having shot 300 there on our last visit, but Hattori's impressive resume could have been intimidating.  Instead, Zach uncharacteristically missed two early spares, and Hansen remained in control the whole match, eventually winning 231-186 for the long-awaited first title of his JBT career.

Vincent Nolan led a high-scoring handicap field after five games at almost +300, but was unable to find an antidote for Brandon Duffy, who ousted him 2-0.  #2 seed Dylan Lucas fared better, ousting Nicholas Pollak in three tough games. #3 seed Austin Signoretti and #4 Kennison Andrews, who had the event's high game with a terrific 299 in qualifying, also got through the first round.

In the round of eight, Andrews beat Duffy 2-0, Lucas beat Brittany Kolatzny 2-1, Brian Grupe swept Tyler Ottenschot 2-0, and Isaiah Cleveland just edged Signoretti 2-1 with a 252-234 deciding game thriller.  Moving on to one game semifinal matches, Lucas beat Andrews 224-188, and Cleveland clobbered Grupe 276-228 to set up a title match between two veterans seeking their first title.

Isaiah, from San Diego, has done his best JBT bowling in Las Vegas over the years, and that trend continued here today.  Despite a solid effort from Dylan, it was too much Isaiah, and the talented youngster notched a 242-217 win for the first title of his JBT career.

Kolatzny was also the top qualifier for the day's Women's Series event, and had to face current female Bowler of the Year Reguero for the title.  In a great match, Kolatzny's tenth frame spare sealed a 237-224 win, and her first Women's Series title.

Thanks to the great crew at Red Rock for hosting our Tour again.  Over $1,400 in scholarships were awarded to bowlers of all ages and averages.  Want in on the fun?  Come on down to the next JBT event, it's that simple!
