champs TJ Gaudette & Ethan Coombes

        TJ Gaudette and Ethan Coombes opened 2011 by surviving their respective fields in exciting JBT NM-TX Conference action at Roswell's Town & Country Recreation.

        In our survivor format, after the cut to the top 50%, bowlers compete in matches where the lowest score on the pair is eliminated.  Seven scratch survivors were narrowed down to three, and in that semifinal match, Paul Carper messed up the car-pool of TJ and Brian Burkett, as TJ (219) and Paul (191) eliminated Burkett (183) to set up the title match.

        The finale was the best match of the day, as both bowlers struck early and often on a tricky Cheetah lane pattern.  Paul finished with a terrific 245, but could only watch as Gaudette began with the front eight strikes en route to the 267-245 win, and the second title of his JBT career.

        Twenty handicap survivors were eventually whittled down to eight, and in that round Brooke Trevino edged Jacob Akin 203-201, Hailey Gilbert beat Shelby Chenoweth 193-168, Coombes beat Kristina Casaus 213-173, and Devan Charboneau ousted Zachary Sharp in a tiebreaker after tying at 193 (it was Zach's second tie of the day!) 

        In the round of four,   Coombes beat Trevino 212-200, and Gilbert beat Charboneau 204-194 to set up the finale  8 year-old Hailey was looking to become one of the lowest average bowlers (45) to win a JBT event, but Coombes had other ideas, sparing five 7-counts en route to a 209-203 win and the first title of his JBT career.
