Town & Country
champs Chris Brown & Cortez Schenck
Two bowlers earned important career firsts in exciting JBT NM-TX Conference action at Roswell's Town & Country Recreation.
Seth Jaramillo made his first scratch division stepladder finals appearance of the season a success with a 201-197 win over TJ Gaudette, the previous day's champion. Brown then stepped in with a 225-207 win over Jaramillo, and followed with a 218-186 win over Paul Carper to advance to the title match.
Top seed Nick Lee began the day exactly like the previous day, jumping out to a huge early lead before backsliding, but this time he was able to right the ship and cruise to the top seed. Meanwhile, Brown, who won two handicap titles with commanding performances that that may have won scratch titles, hadn't recreated that same magic in his scratch stepladder matches thus far. This time, though, Chris found the touch again and was too much for Nick in a 256-227 win, good for the first scratch and third overall title of his JBT career.
Joe Dominguez, a champion last year in Roswell, began another climb up the handicap stepladder finals with a 209-194 win over fellow Roswell bowler Vickie Metcalf. An ultra high-scoring second match saw Dominguez escape Josh Garcia 269-250. Joe followed that up with a 215-203 win over Brandon Dye to reach the title match.
Top seed Cortez Schenck has already impressed JBT veterans as a bowler with the potential to do big things, but had yet to see much success in stepladder matches. This time was different, with a barrage of spares keeping Cortez in the game and eventually forcing Dominguez to double for the win. When Joe was unable to get the second strike, Schenck locked up a 212-203 win and the first title of his JBT career.
Thanks as always to the crew at Town & Country for as always being one of the most hospitable hosts of the season. Over $1,100 in scholarships were awarded to a field of all ages and averages. Want in on the fun? Come on out to the next JBT event, it's that simple!
