Sam's Town

champs Jordan Ferrer & Katelyn Scott

Jordan Ferrer and Katelyn Scott both ended victory droughts by surviving a tough pattern at Sam's Town in exciting JBT Mojave Confernce action.

Lane conditions still largely dictate the scoring pace of a tournament, and that was clearly evident this weekend, as the scratch cut was 200 pins lower than on the previous day's house shot.  This made the 'survivor' rounds, with the low bowler out on each pair, intriguing as bowlers tried to scrape together marks to survive.

Eventually the scratch division was carved down to six survivors.  In that round, Gregg Kern ousted Zach Martinez 172-163, Kyle King beat Derek Acuff 197-182, and Jordan Ferrer rolled the highest game of the tournament in a 256-222 win over Labriel Leach.  In the ensuing three-way semifinal, Ferrer remained red hot with a 255, while King's 200 also advanced over Kern (146), who still settled for his second top-3 finish in a span of seven days.

Ferrer had the best look through the survivor rounds, and despite a mid-game stumble, remained in control for a 223-194 title match win over King, good for his 4th career JBT title, and first win since mid-season last year.

Fifteen handicap survivors were also eventually whittled down to six, and in those matches Katelyn Scott beat Tyler Ottenschot 236-166, Nathan Hanuscin beat Lindsey Ailport 216-194 (giving Lindsey back to back 4th place finishes on the weekend), and Isaiah Cleveland edged James Gabour in a 216-215 thriller- Gaboour had won a rolloff to get into the survivor rounds, and unfortunately got 8 on the final shot to lose by the pin.

In a well-bowled three-player semifinal match, Scott (219) and Hanuscin (214) edged out Cleveland (210) to set up the championship match.  In that game, Scott took complete control, bowling over 200 scratch in a 236-212 defeat of Hanuscin.  The voctory was the 2nd of Katelyn's JBT career, and first since 2008.  She eanred an extra $100 by rolling to victory with our title sponsor Ebonite's equipment.

Thanks as always to the Sam's Town crew for a great job hosting our Tour.  Over $1,200 in scholarships were awarded- want in on the fun?  Come on out to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
