Shake, Rattle, & Bowl

champs Zach Martinez and Steven Acuff

Zach Martinez and Steven Acuff opened the 15th season of JBT Arizona Conference action with thrilling victories at Cliff Castle Casino's Shake, Rattle, & Bowl.

Tyler Shipman opened the scratch division stepladder finals with a 199-186 win over Labriel "Iceman" Leach.  All-time JBT titles leader Kyle King then defeated Shipman 216-194.  Zach Martinez, who has had some great stepladder matches with King but had never beat him, finally got over that block with a 222-205 win to advance to the title match.

Top seed Brian Weyrauch took the lead away from Zach after game seven, and they engaged in an exciting, back and forth match.  Needing a mark and cgood count to lock up the win, Zach's first shot in the 10th looked to be a catastrophic pocket 7-10, but both pins wobbled and fell, giving him the 212-192 win and a long awaited first career JBT title.

Five year-old Stacey Lamb, the 2010 TPC champ, was at it again, opening up the handicap division finals with a 220-195 win over James Adams.  Brooke Martinez (Zach's sister) then beat Lamb 213-172.  Steven Acuff then defeated Martinez 212-202 to reach the title game.

Top seed Megan LaPrell has been steadily improving, and looked great en route to earning the #1 position for the finals.  However, Acuff has been in top form lately as well, and after nine frames the match was tied.  Megan finished first, going 8-spare-7, and Steven's 9-spare-8 was just enough for the 218-216 win.  The victory was the third of his JBT career, matching his brother Derek in that category.

Thanks to everyone at Cliff Castle for another great job hosting our Tour.  Over $1,500 in scholarships were awarded to bowlers of all averages age 21 and under.  Want in on the fun?  Come on out to the next JBT event, it's as simple as that!
