AZ DOUBLES CLASSIC

        Four very talented bowlers captured JBT titles in exciting action at one of our favorite annual events, the Arizona JBT Doubles Classic, ably hosted for the 15th consecutive year by AMF Christown Lanes.

        The adult-youth team of Jack Corroo and Barb Lewis opened up the scratch division stepladder finals with a 175-121 win over the brother combo of Morgan and Zachary Rapp.  Lewis and Corroo had a much closer match two, but got by Dakota Thompson and Shawn Arias 175-168.  Shelby Dempsey and Marguerite Evans, runners-up last week at the So Cal Doubles, got a chance to avenge themselves with a 145-132 semifinal win to advance to the title game.

        KJ Martinez just keeps on rolling- his average keeps going up but so do his scores.  Adult partner John Evans was a big help en route to the top seed, tossing a 290 along the way to the #1 position.  They were able to keep the momentum they had all day long, winning the title game 208-164 for the championship, the first in JBT for Evans, but the 7th of KJ's career, tying him for first all-time on the career handicap titles list.

        Ben Canfield and JBT alum Brandon Donnelly opened the scratch division stepladder finals with a 228-192 win over Derek Acuff and Craig Spencer.  Kyle King and Matt Jones (the Arizona one) then beat Ben and Brandon 238-169.  Kyle and Matt then rolled past Lanndyn Carnate and Mike Armstrong 223-173 to set up the title match.

        Top seeds Cameron Smith and Matt Jones (the Califormia one) had taken over the lead in the semifinals, and were only matched in veteran experience by their opponents.  With an awful lot of talent on the lanes at once, it was anyone's game, but this time King and his  Jones came out on top for the win.  It was the 57th title of Kyle's incomparable JBT career, and the sixth for Jones, who also won the Tournament of All-Time JBT champions this summer.
