BUENA LANES

champs Wesley Low & Kyle Andrews

Wesley Low and Kyle Andrews ran away with their respective divisions at Buena Lanes, then each had to hang on for victory in exciting JBT Southern California Conference action.

Aaron Foshie opened the stepladder finals with a 234-215 win over Ventura's Justin Sims.  Cameron Smith then stopped Foshie 247-186, and the 34-time champ then beat previous day's winner Ronnie Fujita 205-193 to reach the title game.

The day was somewhat low scoring overall, but top seed Wesley wasn't (ironically), shooting 268, 279, and 279 among his eight games to gain the top seed.  Smith had the lead until the ninth frame, when a missed single-pin was followed up by a tenth frame open, leaving Low feeling sky-high with a 207-193 win, and the eighth title of his still-young JBT career.

Peter Hugelmaier began a climb up the handicap stepladder with a 248-216 win over Frank Aldrete.  In a very high scoring game, Peter then beat Trenton Romleski 272-254.  Hugelmaier was good again in the semis, defeating Eric Torrence 221-171 to advance to the title match.

Kyle Andrews completely dominated the event, even throwing a 290 scratch in the semifinal.  But anything can happen in the one-game title match, and it did, as a sure win dissolved with missed single pins in the ninth and tenth, resulting in a 217 tie after the dust cleared.  Somehow, Andrews regained his composure and doubled to seal the win 53-41 in the ensuing rolloff.  It was the third win of Andrews' career.

Courtney Schultz beat Marina Stever 188-156 to win the day's Impact Bowling Women's Series event, and with that win qualifies for the Girls TPC this summer!

Thanks as always to the crew at Buena for a great job hosting our weekend, which awarded over $3,300 in scholarships to bowlers of all averages and ages.  Get in on the fun by visiting www.bowljbt.com and coming on out to a JBT event soon!
