KEARNY MESA BOWL

champs Wesley Low & Kyle Andrews

Wesley Low picked up right where he left off, while Kyle Andrews tasted JBT victory for the first time, in exciting season-opening Southern California Conference action at San Diego's Kearny Mesa Bowl.

Low climbed the ladder en route to his sixth career JBT title.  His first match was the toughest, as his spare-9 in the tenth was just enough for the 223-222 win over Aaron Foshie.  Wesley then got by Northern California's Ronnie Fujita 207-198, and followed with a 209-170 win over Cameron Smith to advance to the title match.  Top seed Curtis Lindeman took over the lead with a solid semifinal set on the demanding lane conditions, but Low, who won the 2011 So Cal JBT Invitational to spark a tremendous summer on the nationwide circuit, gained momentum as he went.  A mid-game five-bagger sealed a 235-206 win over Curtis for the title.

JBT newcomer Kylie Shishima opened the handicap division stepladder finals with a 242-200 win over veteran Randi Speiler.  Vincent Nolan then stopped Shishima 239-220.  Kyle Andrews- rockin' the new season 16 shirt, then defeated Nolan 214-199 to reach the title match.  Top seed Tyler Hatfield, who at 7 years-old continued the assault of youngsters more than holding their own against the older kids, was at or near the top of the leaderboard all day long.  The title match went back and forth, and after Hatfield spared in his tenth, Andrews needed to strike on his first ball in the tenth to win.  Kyle calmly stepped up and flushed a perfect strike, winning the match 221-206, and earning the first title of the veteran's career.

Speiler came back from her stepladder loss to defeat top seed Valerie Riggin 178-165 for the day's Women's Series title, one of three wins she'll need to get into the Women's All-Conference Championship next summer.

Thanks as always to Kearny Mesa for hosting us.  Over $1,500 in scholarships were awarded- want in on all this fun?  Come on out to the next JBT event, that's all there is to it!
