Daniel Hanson showed poise beyond his years in a stepladder clinic, while Robert Altieri saved the day for the men in pink, in exciting JBT Pacific Northwest Conference action at Tacoma's Pacific Lanes.
Daniel began his climb up the scratch stepladder with a 206-187 win over Payden Stumpf. Hanson then beat Arizona's Aaron Foshie 177-148, and stopped red-hot Anthony Douglas (who had fired 546 for two in the semifinals) 229-189 to advance to the title game.
Top seed Perry Crowell IV, on winter break from Midland University, showed a collegiately-strengthened game en route to the top seed. When he started the title game spare-six bagger, 14 year-old Hanson could easily have folded. Daniel did nothing of the sort, countering with a seven-bagger mid-game to stay right with the current Pac NW Invite champ. Crowell responded brilliantly, by striking out for 267, forcing Hanson to get the first strike. Daniel got up and did just that, winning the thriller 277-267- what a way to win your first career JBT title!
JBT newcomer Jonathan Oriza exploded on to the scene with a 269-198 win over Ryan Gallagher to open up the handicap division stepladder finals. JBT veteran Alan Vancleeve then stopped Oriza 262-222, and followed with a 245-183 victory over Kyle Jonson to reach the title game.
Top seed Robert Altieri (along with Perry leading their divisions with pink shirts) dominated the event, leading since round three to earn the top seed. It was a shaky title game from both bowlers, but in the end Robert had just enough for a 198-182 win, and the second title of his JBT career.
Correen Lieber won the day's Impact Bowling Women's Series event with a 224-203 win over Courtney Couch, the second of three wins she needs to qualify for the 2012 Girls TPC this summer in Las Vegas.
