SILVA LANES
champs Cameron Smith & Gerilynn Delagarito
Cameron Smith kept on a season-long roll, while 7 year-old Gerilynn Delagarito rolled past anyone we put in her way, in exciting JBT NM-TX Conference action at Silva Lanes.
Aaron Bristow, who somehow managed to be the cut after all eight games of qualifying and matchplay, opened the scratch division stepladder finals with a 214-181 win over Arizona's Nick Lee. Bristow finally got cut in round two, falling to defending all-conference Bowler of the Year Riley Dempsey 197-160. In a thrilling semifinal, Riley struck in the tenth to defeat Chris Brown 236-233 and advance to the title match.
Top seed Smith had defeated Dempsey just six days ago in a Southern California Conference stop, and they went at again here roughly 1,000 miles further east. Unfortunately for Dempsey it was the same result, as even though both bowlers struggled a bit, it was Cameron who righted the ship first, winning the match 199-167, good for the 32nd title of his amazing JBT career, not to mention amazing 11-12 season so far.
Delagarito snuck into the finals in the #5 spot, and showed no fear or fatigue in a rampage up the handicap stepladder. She began with a 228-197 win over Brandyn MacPhee. She followed with a 227-218 win over Jerimiah Martin, and followed with a 218-211squeaker over Jaedyn Fuqua to reach the title game.
Top seed Doug Griffith bowled brilliantly in his first JBT event to earn the #1 spot, and held his own against Gerilynn in a competitive title match. In the end, Delagarito squeezed out a 222-211 win for the title, teh first of her JBT career, and more proof that 'any age, any average' is way more than just a slogan at JBT events!
Alexis Atkin defeated Tanya Paris 193-161 to win the day's Impact Bowling Women's Series event, the second of 3 wins she'll need to qualify for the 2012 Girls TPC this summer.
Thanks as always to the great staff at Silva for hosting our Tour. Despite a modest turnout due to NM high school finals (congrats to all the JBT-related finalists and winners!), our guaranteed payouts still produced over $1,000 in scholarship prizes! Want in on all this fun? Check out our schedule and come down to the next JBT event, that's all there is to it!
