SUNSET LANES

champs Vince Bachteler & Jordan Heard

It sounds like a bad sitcom title, but "Mr. Fancy Pants and the Birthday Girl" scored big wins in exciting JBT Pacific Northwest Conference action at Sunset Lanes in Beaverton.

Scratch division bowlers were tested by our 'nervewracker' format combined with the 'pick yer poison' variation, with higher seeded bowlers earning the right to choose who they bowl each round.  #2 seed Anthony Douglas chose to bowl Vince-the-Technicolor-Nightmare, and that was a mistake, as he ended up losing 10-7 in the nervewracker's one-shot rolloff.  #1 seed Thomas Nute had a brilliant qualifying round, but also fell in his rolloff to #7 Connor Jackley.

Eventually down to four bowlers, Mr. Connect-Four-Exploded-On-My-Trousers swept #3 Brandon Loyear 2-0, while #11 John Jordan ended the terrific run of #15 Correen Lieber in a tiebreaker to set up the title match.

Jordan, fully recovered from his early-season knee injury and bowling great, won the first game of the title match, but Mr. I-Rolled-Up-A-Twister-Mat-And-Called-Them-Slacks rebounded to win game two, and the ensuing rolloff, for the title.  It was Vince's first scratch, and third overall, win of his JBT career.  Oh, he had interesting pants on, too.

Tessa Friason and Jamilah Ousley put on a very entertaining match to open up the handicap division's stepladder finals, with Friason doubling in the tenth for the 230-227 win.  Friason then snuck by David Scott 224-218 in another close one.  The semifinal was just as tight, but this time it was Max Polhill who came up with the 209-206 victory over Friason to advance to the title game.

Top seed Jordan Heard turned 17 on the day of the event, and gave herself a great present by bowling very well and earning the top seed.  In a close title match, Max had a chance to fill 19 pins in the tenth to win, but his first shot left a pocket 8-10, and Jordan claimed the 195-183 win, good for the second title of her JBT career and the rare birthday win!

Breanne Matson and Correen Lieber went at it for the second straight day in the Impact Bowling Women's Series event, and for the second straight day Mattson won a close game, this time 204-198, for the win.  She needs one more win to qualify for the 2012 Girls TPC this July.

Thanks to the entire staff at Sunset for a great job hosting the JBT for the first time.  Over $2,700 in scholarships were awarded to all averages over the weekend- for your piece of the fun, just come on out to our next event, that's all there is to it!
