ANTELOPE LANES

champs Cortez Schenck & Kendra Edgett

Cortez Schenck continued his season-long roll, while Kendra Edgett experienced JBT victory for the first time, in exciting Arizona Conference action at Antelope Lanes in Prescott Valley.

Bowlers enjoyed a challenging lane condition and the always-challenging 'survivor' format, where after qualifying an even number of bowlers are put on each pair, with the lowest score on each pair eliminated from the tournament. Twelve scratch survivors were carved down to four, and in those semifinal matches, Schenck squeezed past Riley Dempsey 213-210, while Sara Vargas defeated previous day's champ Curtis Lindeman 203-181 to set up the title match.

The talented Vargas was looking to join the elite club of female scratch JBT champions, but struggled a little in the title game, and Cortez took advantage for a 208-164 win, and the 15th title of his JBT career, which amazingly already ties him for tenth on the all-time titles list.

Thrity handicap survivors were whittled down to the final six, and in those matches Edgett eliminated 7 year-old Bailey Knight, Devin Callahan ousted previous day's runner-up Patrick Bailey, and Shelby Dempsey edged Ariel Martin by three pins to set up the final three.  In the resulting semifinal, Callahan (249) and Edgett (219) advanced, while Dempsey (200) settled for third.

The title match was a struggle on both sides by the first-time finalists, but in the end Edgett had just enough left for a 182-174 win, good for the first title of her JBT career (in only her second event)!

Vargas got some measure of revenge in the day's Impact Bowling JBT Women's Series event, defeating Kayla Goad 183-165 for the title.  Girls need three wins to lock in spots at the Girls TPC this summer.
