        Michael Hopkins and Shelby Chenoweth survived demanding conditions to earn JBT titles in exciting New Mexico-Texas Conference action at Roswell's Center City Lanes.  

        We use a variety of lane conditions from event to event, and this one turned out to be one of the toughest of the season, with just over a 160 average enough to make the scratch division's survivor rounds.  On a low scoring condition, it's all about patience and spares, and the ones that survived were able to focus on those goals.  Brandon Gill led qualifying at -44, but a 144 round two score eliminated him.  In the end, two bowlers who snuck into the cut with lower totals, Michael Hopkins (-166) and Billy Read (-167) were the last two standing, with Hopkins winning the match for the title, the first of his JBT career.

    Handicap bowlers struggled as well, with a -91 score enough to get into the survivor rounds.  After six games of low-bowler-per-pair out competition filled with tiebreaks and tenth-frame heartbreaks, Chenoweth stopped Morgan Ellis, who had been red hot in teh previous four rounds, for the title, the first of her JBT career.

    Over $1,800 in scholarships were earned by bowlers of all averages and ages.  See you at the next JBT event for more fun and excitement!
