NARROWS PLAZA BOWL
champs Daniel Hanson & Josh Alvarez
Daniel Hanson and Josh Alvarez captured JBT titles in exciting Pacific Northwest Conference action at Narrows Plaza Bowl.
John Jordan opened up the scratch division stepladder finals with a 245-227 win over red-hot Makayla Douglas. Eddy Smith, who has made every top 5 so far this season, them kept up the high scores with a 247-227 win over Jordan. Hanson then edged Smith 245-233 to advance to the title match.
Top seed Tyler Boe dominated the tournament, and in facing Hanson it was yet another round in what is shaping up to be a great rivalry for years to come, as the two fifteen year-olds are already starting to routinely appear at the top of our standings. This time, the title match was all Hanson, as he forced Boe to burn through his remaining 'mulligans' early, and was then able to cruise to the 245-215 win, and the 4th title of his JBT career.
Katie Elliott made her first appearance in the handicap stepladder in a while a success with a 222-208 defeat of perennial finalist Toby Shepherd in round one. Kyle Hays then stepped in and defeated Elliott 219-180. In a close semifinal, Josh Alvarez then edged Hays 224-219 to reach the title match.
Top seed Jacob Mullen had already had a stellar day, firing the event's only 300 game (and his first), and following it up with a 287 two games later, to run away from the field. However, Alvarez, coming off a win in a tournament at Narrows just the week before, was riding a lot of momentum of his own. The match was surprisingly low scoring but still close throughout, and in the end Alvarez just squeaked by 199-195 for the win, the first title of his JBT career.
Makayla kept her domination of the Women's Series going with a 225-208 over Breanne Mattson, increasing her Pac NW female points lead.
