NM-TX DOUBLES

champs Aaron Foshie & Cortez Schenck, and Jonah Seawright & Sam Small

Two talented teams picked up JBT titles at the NM-TX Doubles Classic, hosted by Tenpins & More @ Rio Rancho.

William Yoder and John Pepper opened the Baker-style stepladder finals in the scratch division with a 206-178 win over the Amarillo father-son team of Mason and Kevin Edmondson, finalists here last season.  Gary Gill then struck in the tenth frame to give him and his sin Jacob a 194-182 win over William and John.  In the semifinals, the Arizona combo of Cortez Schenck and Aaron Foshie, winners already this season in the So Cal Doubles, sunk the Gills 182-149 to reach the title match.

The top seeded team of Mike and Ross Scroggins dominated the event, with Mike showing why he's an 8-time PBA champ by averaging 238, by far the high individual on the tough pattern.  But Ross more than carried his own weight, tossing four 200+ games to help them to the top spot.  However, in the title match, they ran into a red-hot team in 13 year-old Cortez and his buddy the extra from Duck Dynasty, Amish Mafia, and the Houston Rockets (check out the beard).  Their early 5-bagger was enough to coast to a 246-206 win and the title, already the 9th of Schenck's career, and the 10th for Foshie, who becomes only the 28th bowler in JBT history to reach that milestone.

Tom Cordova finished the opening match of the handicap stepladder with all three in the tenth frame, to tie up the match with him and daughter Amber against Michael Holliday and Noah Martinez at 154.  Noah and Michael escaped in the tiebreaker 29-21 to move on, then rode that momentum to a 181-146 win over Scott and Jaedyn Fuqua in match two.  Brad and Bari Harvey then came up with a big 229-169 win in the semifinal tilt to advance and play for the title.

Top seeds Jonah Seawright and Sam Small were -117 after game three, then never shot under 400 again to climb all the way to the #1 spot.  They remained tough in the title match as well, and despite a good effort from Brad and Bari, Small's tenth frame strike was huge, locking up a 185-172 win, helping Jonah to earn the 5th title of his JBT career.

Thanks as always to Steve Mackie and Mike Miller, longtime supporters of JBT, and the whole staff at Tenpins for another great job hosting our event.  Over $2,300 in scholarships was awarded to under-22 bowlers of all averages.  Want in on the most exciting and fun events around?  Come on out to the next JBT event, it's as easy as that!
