Wesley Low and David Galvan captured JBT titles in exciting Mojave Conference action at Pahrump Nugget Bowl.
Previous day's champ Jakob Butturff opened the scratch division stepladder finals with a 199-165 win over Nick Pollak, who earlier shot the only 300 of the day, albeit a mulligan-aided one (bowlers earned mulligans based on the number of their first game open frames in a twist on the usual mulligan format). Dallas Leong then put a stop to Butturff's doubleheader sweep dreams with a 255-239 win in round two. Low then defeated Leong in a thriller, 233-227, to advance to the title game.
Top seed Eric Hatchett has been putting together a terrific season somewhat under the radar, and continued the great bowling by leading the event here. However, Wesley, a disappointed runner-up yesterday despite extremely high scores, wouldn't be denied this time. An early split conversion from Wesley combined with missed spares from Eric resulted in a 218-195 win for Low, good for the 11th title of his excellent JBT career.
Anthony Dang, yesterday's handicap division winner, opened up another charge at the title with a 246-198 win over TJ Rock. Newcomer Blaizen Ishikawa then stopped Dang's run with a 223-184 win. David Galvan, also a finalist yesterday, then beat Ishikawa in a 209-205 squesaker to reach the title game.
Top seed Donovin Lusher continued his great bowling since the Main Event by leading seven of the eight rounds here. However, the veteran Galvan came up with a command performance, rolling his high game of the day in a 273-186 win over Lusher, capturing his first career JBT title with the win.
Alexis Atkin made it back to back Women's Series wins with a 200-171 victory over Crystalene Pineda, good for a big boost in her Mojave and all-conference girls' points.
