SURF BOWL
champs Justin Sims & Trevor Thompson
Trevor Thompson doubled his fun on the weekend, while Justin Sims doubled his career title count, in terrific JBT Southern California Conference fun at Surf Bowl in Oceanside.
Sims qualified first as the only bowler to average over 200 on the demanding condition, and after a one-round bye, defended his seed with a 2-game 391-331 win over Kirk Chui. In other matches that round, Oscar Chan beat Harley Sweigart, Joe Grondin got past Bobby Hornacek, and Spencer Van Rijsbergen was the hard luck loser against Jakob Butturff, as he threw the second best score of the round of 406, but lost to Butturff's 424. Down to single game semifinals, Sims defeated Grondin 192-173, and Chan stopped Butturff 235-196 to set up the title match.
Chan has been knocking on the door of another title a lot lately, but Sims wasn't about to open the door, rolling a confident game in a 222-185 win, good for the second title of his JBT career.
Rance Dvorak ended a season-long slump by grabbing the #1 seed in the handicap division, then defended his seed with a 484-377 win over #9 Nick Condon. In other round of eight matches, #2 Thompson got past #12 Marguerite Evans, #3 Samantha Potter beat #8 Anthony Dang, and #4 Glenn Alan Teal stopped #7 Leah Zweig. Down to single game semifinals, Trevor beat Leah 237-224 and Samantha ousted Rance 216-208 to advance to the title game.
Potter was having the best day of her young JBT career, but nobody had any answer for Trevor's talent all weekend, and with the 218-190 win, he completed the doubleheader sweep of the weekend, earning the fourth title of his JBT career!
Brittany Kolatzny defeated Marina Stever 217-157 to win the day's Impact Bowling JBT Women's Series event, qualifying her for the 2013 Girls TPC this July.
Thanks to the crew at Surf for an excellent weekend alongside the ocean! Want in on fun and excitement for all averages and ages that only JBT provides? Check out our schedule and come on out, that's all you have to do!
