WILDFIRE LANES

champs Cortez Schenck & Anthony Dang

Cortez Schenck put an exclamation mark on the first thirteen years of his bowling career, while Anthony Dang put an exclamation mark on a terrific first season, in exciting JBT Mojave Conference action at Wildfire Lanes.

After leading the qualifying round by averaging 218 on a challenging pattern, Cortez put on a clinic in matchplay.  He began by rolling 503 for two games to eliminate #8 Brandon Russom.  He then faced Oscar Chan, who figured to be tough, coming off a 270 game of his own.   Schenck's response was to fire a perfect 300 game- the third of his JBT career and second in two weeks- and backing it up with 237 the next game to sweep Chan.  Meanwhile, Jakob Butturff, the other standout bowler of the season, was in yet another semifinals himself, but he ran up against another tough Las Vegan in Eric Hatchett, who ousted him with huge scores of his own, 523-377, to move on to the title game.

Although besieged by bad carry in the title game, Hatchett still had a chance to win with a tenth frame double.  Eric got the first hit, but a stubborn 10-pin stood on the second ball, giving Cortez the 199-193 win, his tenth scratch JBT title, and thirteenth overall JBT win- all this in his last week as a thirteen year-old kid- wow!

Alayna Purdy led the handicap division qualifying round, but fell in round two of matchplay to #9 Dee Handley.  Dee was in turn stopped in the semifinals to Anthony Dang, who moved on to the title match.  In the other half of the matchplay bracket, Brandon Duffy stopped Cerell Cardines 182-163 to face Anthony for the title.

Dang was able to pull away from Duffy in the second half of the game to win 220-190 for the title.  After four unsuccessful trips to the title game in the early part of the season, Dang has continued to work hard and finally claimed his first career JBT title.

Leah Glazer won her first JBT Women's Series event of the season with a 178-145 win over Savannah Carr.  She needs two more wins to guarantee her spot in the JBT Girls TPC this summer.
