REVOLUTIONS - BARSTOW BOWL
champs Kyle Duster & Jeremy Cardines
Kyle Duster and Jeremy Cardines wrapped up a terrific weekend in Barstow with big wins, in exciting JBT dual-conference action at the spectacular new Revolutions - Barstow Bowl.
Scratch division bowlers competed in the 'mulligan' format, with bowlers earning do-overs throughout the day, and the savvy (or fortunate) ones saving them for the finals. Mulligans didn't factor in match one, as Oscar Chan lost the look on the finals pair, and Dallas Leong took advantage for a big 256-164 win. Conversely, mulligans played a huge part in round two, as Derek Acuff elected (very understandably) not to use his final mulligan in the fourth frame, but ended up leaving that do-over unused, as both bowlers went off the sheet naturally from there, giving Leong a thrilling 278-269 win. Eric Hatchett, looking for a sweep of the weekend, then stopped Dallas 239-224, to move on to the title game.
Top seed Kyle Duster opened the day with a 279, and battled for the lead all day with Hatchett, eventually grabbing it back with a big game eight. Despite a wardrobe malfunction, Duster remained undeterred, out-striking Eric 266-236 for the title, which is already the sixth of the rapidly improving two-hander's career.
Handicap finalists had to do their bowling mulligan-less, and Jeremy Cardines, a finalist the day before, began the stepladder with a 216-186 win over Marguerite Evans. Cardines turned on the strikes in the next match in a big 277-225 win over April McDonnell. In a rematch of the previous day's semifinal, Cardines got his revenge against Trevor Thompson, beating him 213-206 to move on to the title game.
Top seed Peter Hugelmaier kept up his torrid pace the last month by firing a 300 game in round two, the only perfecto of the day in either division, and vaulting him into a lead he never relinquished. However, he struggled a little bit in the title game, and Jeremy was giving him no margin for error with more good bowling. In the end, Cardines beat Hugelmaier 234-218, completing the climb of the ladder and earning his third career JBT title.
Ashley Dunn and Lareece Chambers bowled an exciting Women's Series title match, and in the tenth frame, Dunn got exactly the 19 fill she needed for a 180-179 win, good for her third Women's Seires title and entry into the Girls TPC this July.
