BIG ROCK BOWLING CENTER
champs William Yoder & Noah Martinez
William Yoder climbed the ladder to another scratch title, while Noah Martinez reached the JBT winner's circle for the first time, in exciting New Mexico-Texas Conference action at Big Rock Bowling Center.
Yoder won four matches in the stepladder finals, beginning with a 222-178 win over Bree Vargas, making her fist scratch finals. William then edged all-conference points leader Cortez Schenck 204-202, and followed with a 247-204 win over Danny Cobine to reach the title match.
Having beaten the two people he's currently in the Bowler of the Year battle with, Yoder then faced top seed Matthew Tran, who was leading a JBT event for the first time. Though he bowled a clean game, Tran couldn't get enough strikes to keep up with the streaking Yoder, who despite a blistering ring finger, won the match 218-195 for his third career JBT title.
Kyle Salazar began the handicap stepladder finals with a 245-221 win over Ryan Byer. Kallista Fritts then stopped Byer 228-214. Noah Martinez then turned the tables on Fritts with a 226-190 win, advancing the veteran to his first career title match.
Top seed Tanya Paris, who won her first career title last month in Las Cruces, looked just as good here, easily rolling to the top seed. However, in a close match, Martinez came up with a 224-207 win, good for that elusive first career title.
Paris also made the Women's Series title match and bowled an excellent game there, but top seed Bree Vargas was too much, winning the match 236-213 for the day's ladies' crown.
