KELLOGG BOWL

champs Brian Monnette & Cameron Nodland

Two bowlers took very different routes to their first career JBT singles titles, in dramatic JBT Pacific Northwest Conference action at Milwaukie's Kellogg Bowl.

Bowlers were tested by both the Portland Masters lane pattern, and the 'super-survivor' format, where after the first cut, the lowest game plus the lowest overall totals are eliminated round by round until only one bowler remains.  Fifteen scratch qualifiers were eventually carved to three, and in that round Tanner Spacey (243) and Brian Monnette (198) eliminated points leader Nick Devlin (183).  In the ensuing title match, a missed spare late from Spacey was the key frame, with Brian taking advantage for a 237-211 win.  He had one JBT doubles title previously, but this ends a long quest for his first career singles title, with perhaps many more to come now that the ice is finally broken!

A big handicap division turnout meant lots of super-survivor rounds, so the final few bowlers definitely earned it.  Twenty-eight semifinalists were finally whittled down to a final four.  Johnny Leggett and Jared Hartrampf were eliminated in that round, advancing Shannon Bliquez and Cameron Nodland to the title game.

It was Bliquez' first title match, while it was Nodland's first JBT event, so somebody would be making some personal history.  IN a well-bowled title match, Cameron beat Shannon, earning his first career JBT title.

Monnette and Leggett won their respective division's 'weekend warrior' bonus of $100 each, with the best combined finish of the two days put together.

Kelsey Abrahamsen continued her hot bowling of late with a win over points leader Courtney Nikolas to capture the day's Women's Series event.

Thanks to the crew at Kellogg for hosting a very busy, very fun JBT weekend.  Want in on all this fun for all ages and all averages?  Just check out our schedule and come on down, that's all there is to it!
