BRC PREMIER
champs Jakob Butturff & Brandon Loss
Jakob Butturff began a new title streak, while Brandon Loss tasted JBT victory for the first time, capturing titles at BRC Premier in exciting Southern California Conference action.
Scratch division scores were high for the second consecutive day, aided this time by the 'mulligan' format, where bowlers get 'do-overs' to strategically use throughout the day. Cortez Schenck began the stepladder finals with a 245-224 win over Bobby Hornacek. The next match was a thriller, mulligans or not, as current U-20 Junior Gold champ Wesley Low outstruck current U-15 Junior Gold champ Schenck 289-280, both bowlers showing why they are national champions. In the semifinal match, Low got past Austin Thompson 236-217 to move on to the title match.
Top seed Jakob Butturff matches up very well to the Abbey Road pattern, and led again here today. Low, meanwhile, was looking to avenge a title match loss to Jakob last year in Montclair that was one of our all-time great matches. However, Butturff had all the answers, defeating Wesley 258-225, sweeping both events on the weekend and earning the 28th title of his fantastic JBT career.
Jozef Corwin opened the handicap division stepladder finals with a 202-181 win over Aaron Vazquez. Andrew Chan then beat Corwin 230-204. A semifinal thriller saw Jacob Murray beat Chan 220-219 to move on to his first title match.
Top seed Brandon Loss grabbed the lead from Murray in the last semifinal game, so Jacob was looking for revenge. However, the untested Loss performed very well in the title match, beating Murray 247-203 to earn his first career JBT title.
The Women's Series match provided even more excitement, as Randi Speiler and Correen Lieber tied at 222. In the ensuing one-shot rolloff, Lieber escaped 10-9 to earn her third Women's title of the year, officially qualifying her for the 2014 Girls TPC!
Thanks to the crew at Premier for a great weekend of fun for all ages and averages. Want in on all this? Check out our schedule and come on down, that's all you have to do!
