RIVERSIDE LANES
champs Eric Hatchett & Alejandro Moser-Hernandez
Eric Hatchett made the most of his visit to the Northwest, while Alejandro Moser-Hernandez once again proved any age and any average can do great things at JBT events, each capturing titles in exciting PacNW Conference action at Mount Vernon's Riverside Lanes.
Tanner Spacey led all five games of the qualifying round to grab the #1 seed for matchplay. He got past #16 Nick Devlin (who got in via a tiebreaker), but then fell to #8 Bryson Parker in the round of eight. Parker in turn was stopped by #5 Tyler Boe to wrap up the top half of the bracket. In the other half, #2 Eddy Smith was an early casualty, ousted by #15 Josh Alvarez. Alvarez was stopped by Kyler Crevier. The red-hot Crevier's run was stopped by #3 Hatchett in the semifinals though, setting up a title match battle between Mojave Conference star Hatchett and Boe, whose family Eric was staying with on his visit to Washington! The title match was a classic, with both bowlers digging out clutch shots on the challenging pattern. In the end, Boe couldn't get the tenth frame double he needed, and Eric claimed his 7th career JBT title with the exciting victory, though he was of course forced to spend the night on the Boe's driveway in the snowstorm... (just kidding?)
Top seed Riley Basher led the handicap division qualifier, and for his efforts had to play his sister #16 Nikita Benton in round one! He survived that, but lost to #8 Tyler Denune in the round of eight. Denune then beat Main Event champ Alexa Lanning to advance to his first title match. In the other half of the matchplay bracket, #2 Zoe Mahn beat #15 Kara Lieber, and #10 Parker Portalski, but fell to #3 Moser-Hernandez in the semifinal, setting up a title match between two of the younger and lower-average bowlers in the event.
Seven-year old Alejandro and Tyler both bowled well in the title match, but a late spare from Moser-Hernandez and a late missed spare from Denune made the difference, as Alejandro escaped with a 204-201 win, and his first career JBT title.
Kelsey Abrahamsen got 2/3 of the way to the Girls TPC with a win over top seed Zoe Mahn to earn the day's Women's Series title.
Thanks to the crew at Riverside for a great job hosting a JBT event for the first time. Want in on all this fun and excitement for all ages and all averages? Just check out our schedule and come on down, that's all you have to do!
