SAM'S TOWN
champs Cortez Schenck & Megan Carlson
Two Arizona JBT veterans traveled to Vegas to add titles to their collections in exciting Mojave Conference action at Sam's Town.
Dallas Leong opened up the scratch stepladder finals in dramatic fashion with the first ten strikes, but had to settle for a 288-232 win over Zach Martinez. Leong's look went away in round two, and Wesley Low took over with a 269-181 win to move on. In the semifinals, Low defeated Brendan Thomas 215-179 to set up a title game between two current Junior Gold champs (Wes won the U20 boys and Tez topped the U15 boys last summer).
Top seed Cortez Schenck is at it again, and that's bad news for the rest of the Tour. The 14 year-old opened the day with a 290 and went on to sweep the leaderboard, and after three spares to open the title match, started striking, while Wesley's look deteriorated. The result was a lopsided 232-149 win for Schenck, good for the 21st win of his amazing JBT career.
Cerell Cardines opened the handicap division stepladder finals with a 197-181 win over David Galvan, and that was bigger news than usual because his opponent in the next match was none other than big brother Jeremy, who made the switch to lefthanded bowling this season. In a close match, little brother beat big brother 218-210 for the bragging rights around the Cardines house for the week. Utah's Brandon Russom then stopped Cardines 208-184 to advance to his first career JBT title match.
Top seed Megan Carlson has had a solid JBT career, but hasn't racked up the titles that she might have liked. If she keeps bowling like this that will change rapidly, as she led the field after a big semifinal set, and her spare in the tenth wrapped up an exciting 215-210 win against Russom, good for her second career win.
Carlson's day got even better with a 197-190 win over the always tough Alexis Atkin to win the day's Women's Series event.
Thanks to the crew at Sam's Town for a great job as always hosting our Tour. Nobody else offers the fun and opportunity for all ages and averages that JBT does, so get in on the fun by checking out our schedule and coming on down!
