SOUTH POINT

champs Jacob Camacho & Daryus Alo

Any age and any average can have fun at JBT events, but they can win too, as 7 year-old Daryus Alo and 18 year-old Jacob Camacho earned titles in exciting JBT Mojave Conference action at South Point.

Keon Bugarin opened the handicap division stepladder finals with a 198-195 squeaker of a win over Ryanna Patterson, who settled for fifth place for the second straight day.  Bugarin then turned out the high game of the day in a 278-208 win over Brandon Russom.  Alayna Purdy then edged Bugarin 218-215 in a nailbiting semifinals to advance to the title game.

The preternaturally talented Alo is no stranger to JBT success even at his young age, with a couple top-5 finishes to his credit already. He used a 222 scratch game (on the day's Shark pattern!) to grab the number one spot, and then wowed the crowd with a tenth frame turkey to force Purdy to mark for the win.  Unfortunately for Alayna, she couldn't make the spare she needed, and Alo became the third-youngest champion in JBT history with the title game win.

Scratch bowlers had to contend with the Nervewracker format, where the top 8 played in two game matches that came down to one-shot rolloffs if the matches were tied 1-1.   Top seed Cortez Schenck won his first round 2-0, and Eric Hatchett survived the only multi-round nervewracker, beating Harley Sweigart 20-19.  Schenck then swept Hatchett in one semifinal, while Jacob Camacho, on break from Indiana Tech, beat defending champ Derek Acuff 10-7 in a tiebreak to set up the title match.

The first game of the title match ended in a 180 tie, so that game itself needed a rolloff, which Jacob won 10-8.  Schenck came back to win the next game 204-171, forcing another rolloff for the title.  They tied at 8 after the first shot, but Camacho came through with a 10-8 win on the second ball, winning the first scratch singles title of his JBT career.

Brooke Martinez swept the weekend's Women's Series events with a win over Randi Speiler.

Thanks as always to the crew at South Point for hosting our Tour.  Want in on the fun?  Check out our schedule and come on down, that's all there is to it!
