STARLIGHT LANES

champs Cortez Schenck & Isziah Zuni

Isziah Zuni continued his steady season with his second JBT title, but it was the preternaturally talented Cortez Schenck who made another mark on the JBT history books, in exciting New Mexico-Texas Conference action at Santa Ana Star Casino's Starlight Lanes.

Danny Cobine opened the scratch division stepladder finals with a 216-182 win over Brandon Gill, who earlier had the individual highlight of the day with a perfect 300, only the second this season Tour-wide.  In a lose-lose situation for Danny, Sara Vargas then beat him in round two 199-187.  Braxton Williams, who recovered beautifully from a -90 hole after two games, then beat Vargas 201-160, to advance to the title match.

Schenck had nabbed the top seed with a big semifinal finish, and shrugged off a 1-7 record in title matches so far this season with a dominant 246-158 win to earn the title.  It's the 20th of his JBT career, and he joins the historic list of King, Black, Smith, Baker,  Butturff, George, and Cain as the only bowlers to capture 20 or more titles in their career.  He's done it juuuust slightly younger than anyone else.

Isaac Duran opened the handicap division stepladder finals with a 220-197 win over Kory Hetmer.  Isaac then beat Melissa Waters 225-189.  Zuni then halted Duran's run with a 225-168 semifinal victory to advance to the title game.

Top seed Tyler Berry was enjoying his best career JBT event, but the veteran Zuni bowled a confident title game, and his tenth frame mark locked up a 218-204 win, good for the second title of his JBT career.

Sara Vargas kept on rolling in the Women's Series, this time defeating Melissa Waters 215-189 to earn the day's Women's title, her fifth consecutive to open the NM-TX Conference season.

Thanks to the terrific crew at Starlight for another great job hosting our Tour.  Want in on all this fun?  Check out our schedule and come on down, that's all you have to do!
