CLIFF CASTLE

champs Derek Acuff & Paul Colyer

Derek Acuff and Paul Colyer opened up the 19th season of Arizona Conference JBT action with exciting victories at Cliff Castle Casino's Shake, Rattle, and Bowl.

Anthony Inzetta, an Ohio bowler joining the ASU college team, began the scratch division stepladder finals with a 252-168 win over 18-time champ Ben Canfield.  Inzetta then struck in the tenth frame to get past Nick Pollak 221-206.  Veteran Derek Acuff then poured on the strikes to beat Inzetta 267-224 and advance to the title match.

Top qualifier Cortez Scheck picked up right where he left off last season, leading from round two on, but Derek almost caught him at the end of the semis, and this figures to be the first of many times these two will clash in big matches this season. After early matching triples, Cortez started to lose his look on the left hand lane, and Acuff took full advantage, eventually coming away with a 217-204 win for the title.  It's the 23rd of his excellent JBT career, passing Andrew Cain for 8th place on our all-time titles list.

JBT rookie Cody Wager began the handicap division stepladder finals with a 187-170 win over veteran Chad Alexander.  Wager then defeated TPC champ Jakob Hilton 211-202.  Tucsonan James Burke then stopped Wager 229-189 to advance to the title match.

Paul Colyer grabbed the top seed with a solid performance all day long, and this set up an interesting title match between two JBT veterans with a bunch of second place finishes but no titles between them.  Paul left no doubt who was going to erase that anomaly from their resume, coming up with a huge game and a 273-205 win, good for his first career JBT title.

Rachael Berg also had a career first, winning her first Women's Series event with a 199-179 win over top seed Gillian Coyle in what looks to be a wide open season for new faces to find success in the Women's Series.

Thanks as always to the crew at the beautifully remodeled Shake Rattle and Bowl for hosting our Tour.  Want in on the most fun tournaments for bowlers of all averages?  Just check out our great new schedule and come on down to the next JBT event!
