BIG ROCK BOWLING CENTER

champs Cortez Schenck, Adel Wahner, and Andrea Griego

Cortez Schenck and Andrea Griego survived tough challenges from high scoring fields to capture JBT titles at Espanola's Big Rock Bowling Center.

Schenck blasted +218 for his five qualifying games, but that was bested by the talented Adel Wahner, who used a 290 game to leap to the lead at +262, one of the best female 5-game scores we've ever had.  They both faced do or die moments in the always tough survivor rounds though, and like the champs they are they both came through with tenth frame strikes to get by early survivor rounds.  Down to the semifinals, Schenck stopped Angel Ortega 223-214, while Wahner poured on the strikes in a 268-166 win over first time scratch finalist Krysta Carlisle.  They were also teh top two girls on the day, so that also served as the day's Women's Series title match, and that win was the third on the season for Wahner, qualifying her for the Girls TPC in July 2016.

Cortez already has a prohibitive lead in every conceivable statistical metric on Tour this season, and his most recent explosion continued in the title match, as he threw 10 strikes in a 278-226 win over Wahner, good for the 59th title of his JBT career, coming ever closer to the coveted all-time titles lead.

Twelve handicap survivors were eventually carved down to four, and in those semifinal matches, Griego beat Dale Case 223-210, and Daniel Hall ended Kelly McNeil's tournament for the second straight day, winning a 176-173 thriller to advance to the title game.

Griego stayed in the lead scratch for most of the title match, making the handicap irrelevant, and a tenth frame double punctuated a 224-189 win and her first career JBT title, while Hall was consoled with back to back runner-up finishes and a leap into the points lead.

Thanks as always to the team at Big Rock for a great job hosting our events.  Want in on all the fun?  Just check out our schedules and come on down!
