CANYON LANES

champs Joe Grondin, Dustin Yauney, & Kaylee Am-Khong

Joe Grondin swept the weekend, while Dustin Yauney nearly swept the leaderboard en route to JBT titles in exciting Southern California Conference action at Morongo Casino's Canyon Lanes.

Brandon Wanders began the scratch division stepladder finals with a 205-193 win over Austin Thompson.  Wanders then got past all-time titles leader Cortez Schenck 245-225.  Kyle Duster, who had never before made round two at Canyon, then stopped Wanders 224-201 to advance to the title match.

The field averaged 30 pins a game lower on a much different pattern than the previous day's strike-fest, but Grondin kept grinding out the marks, showing his versatility to be in the title match both days.  Joe finished strong but Kyle still had a chance to strike in the tenth for the win.  Duster's attempt came up high though, and a relieved Grondin claimed back to back wins for the first time in his JBT career, and fifth championship overall.

Tyler Handa, making his first singles finals, began a climb up the handicap division stepladder finals with a 196-159 win over Mark Sauve.  Handa then beat Brandon Lim 213-200, and followed with a 218-178 win over 9 year-old newcomer Caden Duff to reach the title game.

Yauney bowled great all day en route to a 100+ lead over second place, and was the only handicap bowler still 'plus' after game eight.  No matter how dominant, you still have to win the final game, and after a very shaky start, he recovered nicely for a 206-180 win, and the third title of his JBT career.

Kaylee Am-Khong and Kylie Shishima qualified 1-2 for the women's series final for the second straight day.  After Kylie's big 300 yesterday, Kaylee got her revenge today, winning 224-155 for the girls scratch title for the day.

Big thanks to the team at Canyon for another great weekend at their beautiful center.  Want in on all the fun and excitement?  Just check our schedule and come on down to the next JBT event!
