HOLIDAY BOWL

champs Stefan Wood, Adel Wahner, and Mateo Gonzalez

Stefan Wood and Mateo Gonzalez opened a brand new season of New Mexico- Texas Conference JBT action with excting wins at Albuquerque's Holiday Bowl.

Defending Bowler of the Year William Yoder began the scratch division stepladder finals with a 189-180 win over first time scratch finalist Jonah Seawright.  Stefan Wood then stopped Yoder 204-178, and then snuck by Angel Ortega 181-169 to reach his first career title match.

Top seed Zach Wojciechowski dominated the tournament, and looked like he'd dominate the title match as well with an opening turkey.  However, Wood has proven himself to be a great closer, and he strung the last six strikes to brilliantly turn the tables and make Zach strike out for a one pin win.  Wojciechowski got the first hit, but couldn't get the second, and Stefan claimed his first JBT title with the 211-201 result.

Daniel Hall defeated Jacob Lucero 217-186 to begin the handicap division stepladder finals.  Trevor Hicks then stopped Hall in a high scoring 244-231 second round game.  Hicks rolled on in the semifinals, beating Gerilynn Delegarito, who had led most of the tournament, 221-203 to advance to the title match.

Top seed Mateo Gonzalez almost won in Lubbock last season, but this time he left no doubt that he would become a champion, rolling the second high game of the day in a 273-160 win over Hicks, joining the JBT champions' club with the win.

Adel Wahner picked up where she left off last season, earning the first Women's Series title of the new campaign with a 188-146 win over Delegarito, who impressed everyone by being the #2 scratch girl at just 11 years old.

Thanks as always to the team at Holiday for a terrific job hosting our events. Want in on all this fun for all ages and averages?  Just check out our upcoming schedule and come on down!
