SOUTH PLAINS LANES

champs Stefan Wood & Kolton Carpenter

Stefan Wood, Adel Wahner, and Kolton Carpenter scored impressive victories to wrap up a spirited weekend of JBT TX-NM Conference action at Lubbock's South Plains Lanes.

Roel Delgado and Kory Hetmer must have forgotten they were opening the handicap division stepladder finals with their match, as they both bowled brilliantly in an eventual 276-267 win for Hetmer.  Kory slowed down in round two and Kristina Rush then took advantage for a 202-189 win in round two.  Kristina escaped the semifinal match against Nathan Nguyen missed a tenth frame spare, and the 199-190 result put Rush in the title game and left Nathan calling 9-1.

Levi Fintel won a rolloff against Blayne Hurst for the final scratch division stepladder spot, but the joy was short-lived as Jake Whitson beat him 215-193 in the first round.   The second round was a thriller, as Angel Ortega topped Whitson 246-236.  The surprisingly high scores continued in the semifinals, as Curtis Lindeman blasted the high game of the day in a 279-198 win over Ortega to move on to the title game.

Stefan Wood wrestled the top seed away from Lindeman in the last game of matchplay, and the two engaged in a very well-bowled title match.  After Stefan left a short count on his fill ball for 236, Curtis had a chance to get 29 pins in the tenth for the win.  Lindeman's first shot looked perfect but a ringing 10-pin felt otherwise, and the resulting 236-214 gave Wood a hard-earned second career JBT title.

Rush's excellent day included a visit to the Women's Series title match as the top seed, but Adel Wahner came up with a huge 268-150 win to earn the day's girls' title and add another accolade to an outstanding weekend.

Thanks as always to the team at South Plains for their usual splendid job hosting our events.  Want in on all this fun for all ages and averages?  Just check out our schedule and come on down, that's all you have to do!
