SOUTH POINT

champs Kyle Duster, Leanna Orlando, and Cameron Criss

Three bowlers wrapped up an action-packed weekend at the South Point Bowling Plaza with JBT titles in exciting Mojave Conference action.

Cerell Cardines, fresh off his dominant performance the day before in the Doubles event, won round one of the scratch division stepladder finals 204-199 over a hard-charging Andrew Guba.  Scores then escalated dramatically on a challenging Boardwalk pattern, that our talented bowlers broke down and created room to play 'on the twig'.  First, Cardines fired eleven strikes in a 278-244 win over a snakebit Sergio Torres.  Then, Kyle Duster turned the tables with the first ten strikes in a 284-233 win over Cardines to reach the title match.

Top seed Eric Hatchett was in a great battle with Duster for the #1 spot, having shot 300 in matchplay (in the same game that Duster shot 278) to tie for the lead, and then taking it away in the last matchplay game.  Eric had no answers in the title match though, as Kyle blasted a 267 game to easily beat Hatchett's 185, leaving the frustrated Kiss fan with his 7th straight title match loss, including the day before in Doubles.

Newcomer Justin Dormuth opened the 8-bowler handicap finals with a 198 game that just edged Avery Domaguin (191) and also beat Matt Baker (164).  Dormuth survived another squeaker in round two, this time with a 208 that beat out Daryus Alo's 205 and Rachel Csanyi's 169.  In the semifinal match, Leanna Orlando struggled to 167, so could only watch as Dormuth and Brett McEachern tied at 186.  Brett won the tiebreaker 61-44 to end Dormuth's fine run and advance to the title game.

Top seed Cameron Criss has been close to JBT victory before, and this time, his tenth frame 10-pin spare was enough for a 212-205 win over McEachern, earning Criss the first title of his JBT career.

Orlando's fine day continued in the girls title match, as she defeated Rachael Berg 188-167 for her first girls' win.

Thanks as always to the team at South Point for a great job hosting us.  Want in on all teh fun for all ages and averages?  Just check out our schedule and come on down!
