JBT TOUR TRIALS

Julian Zavala bookended his season with big wins, while Reiley Ulanday avenged a loss just last event, capturing titles at the JBT Tour Trials, hosted by Forest Lanes.
Bowlers competed in 20 games of qualifying on four challenging lane patterns. The high scorer from each pattern plus four 'wild cards' based on overall performance advanced to an eight-person, single game 'clash' for the title and the biggest bucks.
Top stars from this season Cortez Schenck, Sergio Torres, and Joe Grondin all struggled in the final game, and when Kyle Reed and Derek Acuff, in his final JBT-eligible event, could not mount a late frame challenge, it left only Stephanie Zavala and her younger brother Julian to play for the title.
Either outcome would be a thrill for the Zavala family, but a mid-game five bagger was plenty for Julian, who also won the So Cal season opener, to roll 234 for the title and $500 top scholarship prize.
The handicap top 8 featured a lot of diversity in ages and averages, but also lacked for a thrilling finish, as only Reiley Ulanday put up a big number. He avenged his title match loss to his sister at last month's Desert Open with the win here, and $600 in scholarship earnings. Costa Gastouniotis grabbed the runner-up spot, while 9 year-old Kendall Bollea nabbed third.

FORMAT: (TWO divisions, scratch and handicap)
Friday August 12:
- Noon-9 PM: tournament patterns available for practice (call for specific times & mention JBT for discounted rate)
Saturday August 13:
- 10 AM: 5 games, pattern 1 (Bowlers earn points for their performance on each pattern
- 2 PM: 5 games, pattern 2 the same as USBC Tour Trials (1 point for 1st, 2 for 2nd, etc.)
Sunday August 14:
- 9 AM: 5 games, pattern 3
- 1 PM: 5 games, pattern 4
- 4 PM: Championship Clash between per block and overall leaders:
Each round’s leader, plus the 4 highest overall point totals, then bowl one
game, with the highest game in the Clash determining the overall winner
ENTRY FEE: $100 (includes all scholarships except brackets, available on-site.)
PRIZE FUNDS: (based 40 entries)
Every 5-game block: Clash final standings:
1st- $100 plus exemption on that pattern! 1st- $500
2nd- $50 2nd- $300
3rd- $200
4th- $150
5th- $100 All Clash qualifiers guaranteed $50 minimum
- High scratch female (if no other prize won): $100
