Harley Sweigart and Renee Gentry pulled off a rare feat, both of them climbing their respective stepladder finals to capture JBT titles in exciting So Cal Conference action at Winnetka Bowl.
Sweigart began his climb with a 248-236 win over Joe Grondin. Scores remained high in the next match, as Harley won a thriller against Stephanie Zavala, returning home after another successful yeah at Sam Houston, 246-235. Sweigart then got past Brandon Wanders in a 257-218 semifinal win to reach the title match.
Top seed Sergio Torres has been knocking on the door of his first scratch title, and looked great here, but it was not to be this time, as Sweigart remained on an untouchable roll. His 240-220 title match win was good for the 13th title of his excellent JBT career.
Gentry began her simultaneous climb with a 241-205 win over Gael Egana to begin the handicap division stepladder finals. Renee then rolled past Zian Sasaki 234-213, and followed with a big 265-229 win over first time finalist Elias Luna to reach the title game.
Top seed Kyle Gilbert led seven of the eight rounds in a commanding performance. However, Gentry remianed tough, and her 218-190 win was good for the second title of her JBT career.
Renee's great day wasn't through yet though, as she then beat Zavala 278-153 to earn the day's girls title. If that wasn't enough, she even won the day's Ebonite bowling ball, for an impressive triple crown of triumphs on the day!
