champs Cortez Schenck & Phillip Sauve; U17 winner Cristian Roque & Girls Scratch winner Destiny Johnson

        Two veterans added JBT titles to their collections in exciting Arizona Conference action at Shake Rattle and Bowl at Cliff Castle Casino.

        Bowlers competed in matchplay after qualifying, and in both rounds were limited to only two balls, placing a premium on physical adjustments.  In the scratch division, Nick Devlin claimed the top seed, and then squeezed by Josh Demick and Harley Sweigart to make the finals.  On the other side of the bracket, Cortez Schenck got past fellow Arizonans Cristian Roque and Keith Fung to advance against Mick for the title.

        A close title match was decided in the tenth frame, when Devlin left a brutal 4-9, allowing Schenck to cruise to the title, his 87th in his JBT career.

        CJ Todeschi was impressive in leading the handicap division of the event, but matchplay can turn things quickly, and he lost to Clifford Robbins in the round of 8.  Phillip Sauve then stopped Robbins to reach another title match.  Christian Caron needed a mark to move on against Sauve for the title, but a big split put a crushing stop to that, and Destiny Johnson benefited from Caron's catastrophe to advance to face Sauve.

        Both finalists were 4-time JBT champs, and it's rare that winners of that caliber face each other in the handicap division.  In a good battle, Sauve emerged with the win, and the 5th title of his JBT career.

     Johnson was consoled with the day's Girls Scratch win, beating Amelia Mosley for that honor.  Cristian Roque earned the day's U17 win with a convincing victory over Nathan Nguyen.
