Mixing it up proved to be a formula for success for Angel Ortega and Lauren Jaramillo, capturing titles in NM-TX Conference JBT action at Isleta Fun Connection.
The popular format combines a scratch and handicap bowler into a doubles team after qualifying. Angel and Lauren caught fire in the stepladder, beginning with a 237-197 win over Cortez Schenck and John Green. They then squeezed by Harley Sweigart and Taylor Herson 215-208. The next match was another thriller, with Angel and Lauren beating Zach Harvey and Colin Richardson 236-222 to advance to the title game.
Vanessa Romero and Deo Benard each bowled extremely well to grab the top seed, but in a close match they fell to Ortega and Jaramillo 213-205, good for their second career JBT titles each.
Romero got some revenge in the Girls Scratch final though, beating Lauren 203-182. Lauren, in turn, got revenge from that, beating Nathan Nguyen 182-166 for the U17 side event win.
