LAS VEGAS OPEN
champs Joe Gerencser & Garrett Lee with scratch runner-up Reigh Abaoag
Joe Gerencser put on a clinic for the third straight year, while a newcomer to JBT put on a clinic of his own, in exciting action at the Las Vegas Open Overnighter, hosted by The Orleans and co-presented by our east-coast JBT cousins.
Gerencser qualified 5th for the 16-bowler scratch finals, and then defeated top seed Cerell Cardines in one semifinal, while the upstart Abaoag stopped #2 Kyle Reed in the other semifinal. Reigh's career best day came to an abrupt halt in the title game though, as Joe blasted a 268 to defeat Abaoag's fine 212 effort, giving him his third consecutive LVO scratch title- wow!
The 'chalk' held up in the handicap division, with top seed Deo Benard doubling in the tenth frame to oust defending champ Marcelo Trejo Jr, while Garrett Lee got by Christopher Faro in the other semi to set up a 1 vs 2 finale.
Benard, the TPC champ just a month ago, couldn't get the same carry that has propelled his incredible run of late, and Lee capped off his impressive JBT debut with the title match win and overnighter championship.
Lee and Gerencser picked up $1,000 scholarships each, and over $5,300 was awarded overall to all ages and averages.
Thanks to the team at Orleans for a wonderful hosting job all through the long overnight hours. Want in on all the fun and excitement? Just check out our schedule and come on down!
