MIRA MESA LANES
champs Solomon Salama & Dawson Reese with Krystopher Martin & Katelyn Abigania
Two early-season stars continued to add to their 2017-18 resumes with big wins in exciting JBT Southern California Conference action at Mira Mesa Lanes in San Diego.
Ricky Pollom began the scratch division stepladder finals with a 232-159 win over Marc Villalobos. Pollom then squeezed by Kevin Banaag 191-186. Harley Sweigart then stopped Ricky's roll with a 257-179 win to advance to the title game.
Top seed Solomon Salama then squared off against Sweigart in another edition of the Tour's current top lefty and the quickly rising next-gen southpaw superstar. Scores were low on the demanding pattern, and when Sweigart couldn't double in the tenth, Salama came away with a 204-182 win, and the fourth title of his JBT career.
Eight year-old Krystopher Martin began an impressive run up the handicap stepladder with a 226 game that eliminated Elias Halloren (204) and Joshua Abigania (207). Martin's 207 second round score was enough to get by Avery Domaguin (204) and William Robbins (177). In the semifinals, Katelyn Abigania (216) and Jared Gutgesell (224) each came up with very nice games, but Martin suddenly exploded for 252 to move on to the title match.
Our younger bowlers have been winning titles left and right lately, but well-traveled Dawson Reese had no fear of the large handicap difference he was faced with. A six-bagger by Reese combined with an understandably tiring Martin led to a 234-193 for Dawson, and the second title of his JBT career, not to mention perhaps thumb surgery unless that ugly stump heals up!
Abigania got her revenge in the Priority Girls scratch title match, beating Kaylee Am-Khong 212-181 for the win, joining Avery as girls scratch winners at just 10 years old! Solomon Salama recovered from his first ever loss in the U17 subdivision the day before with a 181-168 win over Reese for that crown.
Huge thanks to Ebonite, MSC, Priority Girl, and all our other amazing sponsors and supporters, as well as our terrific hosts at Mira Mesa, for everything they do to make our events a success. Want in on the fun? Just check out our schedule and come on down!
