SAM'S TOWN

champs Ryan Perry & William Robbins with Solomon Salama & Samantha Conti

Ryan Perry had a breakthrough win, while William Robbins just keeps on winning, in exciting JBT Mojave Conference action at Sam's Town Bowling Center.

Bowlers competed in the super survivor format, with the lowest score and lowest overall totals eliminated game by game.  "Lowest" was a relative term in the scratch division, with six bowlers averaging over 240 in qualifying, and a 212 average needed to make the first cut.  Sergio Torres squeezed in the cut, then blasted 279 in the first round, but that +141 total was still not enough, as the field kept striking and wouldn't let him catch up.

Down to three bowlers, Perry (236) and Harley Sweigart (232) eliminated Cerell Cardines (191) to advance to the title game.  What had been a carry contest all day suddenly became anything but, as similar to yesterday, strings suddenly became hard to come by.   In the end, Perry escaped with a 204-202 win for a long awaited first scratch JBT title to add to his handicap singles and doubles titles.

Scores were high in the handicap division as well.  Also carved down to three survivors, Skylur Pinkus (217) and William Robbins (243) eliminated Samantha Conti in third (196).  Robbins won his third title in five events the day before, and remained on a roll in the title match.  Despite a great effort from Skylur, William strung five strikes through the tenth for a 270-250 win, good for not only his fifth career JBT title but second time he's swept a weekend, having turned the trick in Tucson last season.

Conti was not only the leading qualifier in the Priority Girls Scratch subdivision, she also topped everyone in the U17 side event.  She defeated April McDonnell for the second straight day, this time 170-160, for the girls title, but Solomon Salama stopped her 256-225 for the U17 win.

Big thanks to everyone at Sam's Town for their usual great hosting job!  Want in on all the fun for all ages and averages?  Just check out our schedule and come on down!
