WHITEWOOD LANES

champs Stefan Wood & Jordan Womble with David Jepsen, Haley Winn, Kellen Lavery, Justin Weddige

Stefan Wood and Jordan Womble claimed victories in exciting JBT Texas-New Mexico Conference action at Whitewood Lanes in Lubbock.

Jayden Martinez opened the handicap 8-bowler stepladder finals with a 225 game that edged Alex Thompson (212) and Kaylee Haynes (206).  The next match featured all 200+ game as well, as Justin Weddige's 229 powered by Taylor Herson's 213 and Martinez' 205.  Scores escalated in a very well bowled semifinal match, as Weddige's 240 escaped from Michael Jamael and Carlos Estrada, who both shot 234, to advance to the title game.

It was two JBT rookies in the title matrch as Jordan Womble caught Weddige, who had led every game prior, with a big final game to jump into the #1 seed.  Scores remained excellent in the finale, and in the end Womble had just enough for a 246-232 win, capturing the first title of his JBT career.

Zach Wojciechowski began the scratch division stepladder final with a 194-159 win over Matteo Bergonzi.  Wojo upped the pace in round two with a 230-199 win over Zack McFarlin, a newcomer with the most unique (but effective) delivery our Tour has seen since the Matt Jones days.  Stefan Wood then stopped Zack with a big 266-201 win to move on to the title game.

Top seed Kellen Lavery is always a threat, and was brilliant here in leading the last six rounds.  The title match was nip and tuck though as the pattern started to change on both of them.  In the end, Wood was in the happy position of needing just nine pins in the tenth to win, and when he left a 3-6, things appeared wrapped up.  However, he made the crowd gasp by juuuust shaving the 3-pin, good enough for a 205-204 win, and the fifth tile of his JBT career.

Haley Winn claimed the day's Priority Girls Scratch event with a 213-174 win over Taylor Herson.  U17 went to Arkansas bowler David Jepsen, with a tenth frame double for a 227-220 win over Amarillo rookie Payton Nunez.

Big thanks to the team at Whitewood for a great job hosting our Tour.  Over $1,700 in scholarships were awarded to all ages and averages.  Want in on the fun?  Just check out our schedule and come on down!
